Office Bologna
There’s a few things that people do at work that irritate me. I’ve learned in the past year that you pretty much have to be careful what you say, and make sure that you maintain a paper trail to cover your own butt. You never know when some random office worker will send out an e-mail an question something that happened x days ago. So you better be prepared to defend yourself.
Anyway, let me tell you about a dumb thing that happened this past week. I’ve been communicating back and forth with two project managers about some stuff I’ve been working on. If I e-mail one, I’ll CC the other, and they do the same — so everybody stays in the loop. Well, basically what happened (and this is not the first time) is that when Project Manager A sent me revised instructions, two minutes later Project Manager B forwarded me Project Manager A’s e-mail, instructing me to proceed with the revised instructions. Half an hour later, Project Manager B forwarded me the e-mail she last sent me, and included a revision to the revised instructions. Two minutes later, Project Manager A forward’s me this e-mail, and instructs me to proceed with the newly revised instructions.
Today at work I created some scripts to automate a daily process that commenced Monday. Basically, it’s a combination of stored procedures, a couple of DTS packages, a simple vb.net application, all glued together with a batch file, which is scheduled to run on weekdays at 7:00 AM. Tomorrow will be the first day it is scheduled to run. I’m excited to go in tomorrow morning to see if it ran successfully.
I have another job that needs to be automated, and I can’t wait to get started on that one.
